Our Learning statement

We discussed what theme we would use for our Learning Statement and we decided to think of our Learning Journey being as though we were in an Amusement Park. Now we need to think of what we are going to say in our statement.

First day back 2011

On the 1st of Feburary, Room 8 had its first day of school.

Girls Milo Cricket 2010

On The 2nd of December the school girls cricket team went up to Palmerston North to play the semi finals and the finals in the Milo Shield Competition.

We played Waimea from Nelson in the semis and got them all out in 10 overs and we won easily ! :)

The next day we played Heaton from Christchurch in the finals, it was a very intense game but we got through it, we fielded first and Heaton scored 73 runs in 25 overs.
We needed 74 runs to win we had no idea whether we could get it or not but in the 19th over Jess Kerr hit a wide ball and they ran for two, We had won !!!

We all ran onto the field screaming and shouting, we were so happy ! We all felt extremely proud of going to Tawa Intermediate and some of us were even crying :)

Pike River Miners

29 lives

29 hearts

29 families

And 29 funerals that didn’t need to happen

As we lay in bed at night thinking of all the families that have lost fathers, sons, brothers, grandfathers, cousins and friends. We obviously don’t know the hurt you are going through but we still care and our thoughts, prayers and blessings are with you every step of the way.

May your memories give you strength.

Although it's difficult to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

We all grow old but our thoughts will never fade.

From the fun times to the rough times to the sad and hurtful we will always miss them.

They put their heart and soul into their job and they didn’t deserve the outcome, we are so sorry for your loss.

They will never be forgotten.

Poems for the families of the Pike River Miners

From room 8, Tawa Intermediate School

Sadness and sorrow is what we feel

The earth claims your sons

They are forever part of our land.

29 miners all lost their lives

for 29 miners, death came as a suprise

29 parents, all lost their sons

29 families devastated at what has been done

We will never forget

their dark faces fill our minds with regret and sorrow
as the sun rises they grow no older
they may be forgotten but in our hearts they will always be there.

29 miners have all lost their families,

all lost their friends,

and all lost their children.

29 miners have all lost their wives,

all lost their girlfriends,

and all lost their partners.

29 families have all lost their husbands,

all lost their siblings,

and all lost their fathers.

29 miners have all lost their lives,

in the Pike River mine.

29 families

They will never be the same

As we wait

As we watch

Hoping

Wishing

It'd just stop

Sorrow has filled these families

Soon to be mothers

Soon to be wives

Soon to be grandmothers

All too soon to have lost their lives

First days

Turn to last

As we wait

As we watch

wives without their husbands

kids without their dads

grandchildren without grandads

so many lives were wasted on a miner explosion
they will never be forgotten.

29 reasons to always remember

I feel for the souls that were left behind

Help was needed but could not be

The miners died but their memories live on

Kind regards for all

We will remember them and they will remember us.

My biggest fear

We walked up a big hill to get to the flying fox. It was long and big and it went past some trees and over the river but the bad part about it was the walking back up the big hill again. It was my turn. My knees were shaking but I jumped and went past the river. I walked up the hill again.
It was fun.
It was like the big swing at the rock climbing wall. It is the coolest flying fox in the world!. I had conquered my biggest fear.
